How can climate-smart agriculture help small and marginal women farmers facing climate change and limited resources?

For small and marginal women farmers, climate-smart agriculture (CSA) offers practical solutions to challenges like unpredictable weather and limited resources. By adopting techniques such as water conservation and planting drought-resistant crops, these farmers can adapt to climate change while ensuring food security for their families and communities. CSA also promotes sustainable land use, helping improve crop yields on smaller plots without relying on costly chemical inputs. This not only empowers women with valuable knowledge but also boosts their incomes and resilience, enabling them to thrive despite environmental and economic challenges.

Our Approach

Our approach to promoting Climate-Smart Agriculture focuses on recognizing women as key contributors to agriculture and environmental sustainability. By empowering women with knowledge and tools, we aim to enhance their role as 'farmers.' Through a farmer-to-farmer model, our Krushi Sakhis—lead women farmers—provide hands-on support and training on practices like water conservation, organic fertilizers, drought-resistant crops and cost-efficient production methods. This ensures women are equipped to adopt sustainable techniques that benefit both their livelihoods and the environment.

Our Interventions

We promote climate-smart agriculture through targeted interventions that focus on three key areas. First, we empower women farmers by strengthening their identities and providing them with critical agricultural knowledge. Second, we help women gain access to essential resources like seeds, tools, and irrigation solutions. Finally, we work to establish market linkages, ensuring women can sell their produce effectively and achieve economic sustainability. These efforts collectively aim to create a resilient agricultural ecosystem for women farmers.
